1. ROME WASN’T BUILT IN A DAY AND NEITHER WILL YOUR CAREER. It takes work, experience, and education to reach your career goals. Your first job may not be your dream job but keep working. Your first job is just that your first job!
2. PAY YOUR DUES! I think this is the largest issue that the older generations have with millennials. Just because you have all of the degrees your hand can hold, does not give you the ability to demand and command immediate results. It was frustrating talking to young lawyers who had the “I cannot take less than $100k when I come out of law school”. Can you do it? Sure but it will take work to get there. In addition, you have to set realistic goals on how you plan to get there.
3. BE HUMBLE AND BE RESPECTFUL! Just because you have more education than upper management on your job doesn’t mean you have the right to be disrespectful and rude. Getting an education is great but there was a time when uneducated hard working people came into management positions(that’s now a dying breed.). If you want someone to respect the letters behind your name, respect the work they put to get to their position. Respect is a two-way street and humility gives you the ability to learn from others. Both generations can learn from one another but it all starts with respect. Millennials can learn the meaning of having a work ethic from the baby boomers. I promise you if you get their work ethic plus the necessary degrees, you will be a force!!
No one in this life owes you anything. Your parents told you to get an education and you would be fine. However, they left out a few steps. The way you #knowyourworth is understanding situations and stepping into adulthood. #youareworthmore than pouting like baby when things don’t go as planned. Roll up your sleeves and work for it. If you want it then go get it! Put hard work on your #careerkeychain.
